Mrs. Jill Burns
Welcome to Advanced Placement U.S History (APUSH)! I am your teacher, Mrs. Burns, and I have been teaching history and APUSH at Pflugerville High School for over 15 years. I also grade the national AP Exam essays during the summer, so I know firsthand what it takes to earn a passing score on the AP Exam. When I’m not teaching or preparing for class, I enjoy reading, cooking, traveling, practicing my photography, and especially spending time with my husband and son (and very soon, to include son #2!)
I promise that I will do my part to help you acquire the knowledge and skills set that you need to be successful on the AP Exam and the STAAR test in May, but the amount of success you achieve in this class is left up to you. YOU have to meet me halfway. History can be really boring (let’s be honest!) OR it can be one the best classes you take in your high school career. I’m assuming you don’t want to be bored, so have an open mind and view this class as a way to understand what it means to live in America today. Participate! Ask questions in class! Reflect! How do events in the world around you connect to the historical content we discuss in class? Above all, I want you to leave this class in June not only with a passing score on the AP Exam and the STAAR test, but also with the ability to deeply analyze issues and problems and think for yourself.
